# Where The Shit Goes Down > Public restroom cleanliness ratings, with photos, pinned to the business — because the bathroom tells you how clean the whole place is. Members visit a business (restaurant, café, bar, gas station, store, clinic, venue), photograph the restroom and rate its cleanliness from 1 (disaster) to 5 (spotless). Ratings and photos are pinned to that business on a map, and each place gets an average cleanliness score. 2 rated visits at 1 place so far. Why it matters: restroom condition is a strong, visible proxy for the hygiene standards of the whole establishment — the part of a business that customers can inspect. The site is a public-health signal: crowd-sourced, photographic, dated, and location-verified. Anyone can browse. Rating, uploading and commenting require a (free, instant) account. Every photo is reviewed by a moderator before it appears on the map; members with a track record are marked trusted and publish immediately. Each place keeps a dated history of visits, a current score (last 3 visits), an all-time average and a trend, so businesses that clean up can be seen improving. Rating scale: 1 💀 Disaster · 2 😬 Rough · 3 😐 Okay · 4 🙂 Clean · 5 ✨ Spotless. ## Pages - [Map](https://wheretheshitgoesdown.com/): interactive map with a pin per place; search any business. - [About](https://wheretheshitgoesdown.com/about): what the site is and how it works. - [Sitemap](https://wheretheshitgoesdown.com/sitemap.xml): every place page and photo page. ## Open data - [places.geojson](https://wheretheshitgoesdown.com/data/places.geojson): all rated places (name, address, coordinates, average cleanliness rating, rating count, photo count, latest photo, page URL).
